Annual Oversize/Overweight Permit Guide by Province
Annual and multi-trip oversize/overweight permit fees across all 13 Canadian provinces and territories. Fees in Canadian dollars, verified against official provincial and territorial sources as of June 2026.
All 13 provinces and territories issue some form of annual or multi-trip oversize/overweight permit, though structure varies: some charge one flat annual fee, others price by dimension band, and Yukon issues a monthly multi-trip permit with no 12-month annual. The cheapest entry points range from C$10 to C$448.75. This guide lists the current fee, dimension limits, and official source for every province.

Alberta issues a multi-trip overdimensional permit for $75 (Reg 315/2002 s.19(1)(b)). Unlike a single-trip permit it does not specify a route, so it covers repeated overdimensional moves. Oversize pricing is flat per class with no per-dimension surcharge stack.
| Permit | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single-trip oversize | $18.75 | Per move (s.19(1)(a)); $6.25 discount through a TRAVIS agent |
| Multi-trip overdimensional | $75 | Route not specified (s.19(1)(b)) |
| LCV (long combination vehicle) | $375 | Designated LCV corridor (s.19(1)(c)) |
Alberta does not publish a fixed dimension ceiling for the multi-trip permit; conditions are set per permit. Overweight is priced separately (a per-tonne-per-kilometre charge plus steering-axle and axle-group schedules), and the oversize and overweight fees sum on a combined permit.
British Columbia issues oversize as a monthly term permit ($30 per month, up to 12 months) rather than one flat annual fee, so a 12-month oversize term runs about $360. Overweight is a separate $100 term permit.
| Permit | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single-trip oversize | $15 | Per move (Reg 328/91 Item 3(e)(i)) |
| Oversize term (per month) | $30 | 1 to 12 months (Item 3(e)(ii)) |
| Overweight term | $100 | Up to 12 months; separate permit (max 64,000 kg GCVW) |
Oversize and overweight are separate permits whose fees add together when a load is both. Term permits carry their own dimension envelope set by the Provincial Permit Centre; superload-tier moves go through the Extraordinary Load Approval team.
Manitoba prices annual oversize permits by dimension band rather than one flat fee (Man Reg 42/2006 s.33). A load that is both over-width and over-length pays each applicable annual charge; within a single dimension only the matching band applies. Height carries no annual surcharge.
Annual over-width
| Width band | Annual fee |
|---|---|
| 2.61 to 3.05 m | $28 |
| 3.06 to 3.70 m | $63 |
| 3.71 to 4.30 m | $133 |
| 4.31 m and over | $273 |
Annual over-length
| Length band | Annual fee |
|---|---|
| 20.1 to 23 m | $28 |
| 23.1 to 30 m | $112 |
| 30.1 m and over | $224 |
Additional Fees
Overweight annual is separate: $105 per 1,000 kg of weight increase (s.32(3)). Front projection adds $28.
The City of Winnipeg and the City of Brandon substitute their own by-law fees for moves within their limits.
New Brunswick issues 12-month annual special permits by category. General-freight annual is $221; specialty categories (fishing boats, manufactured homes) are $441. Three-month versions run roughly a third of the annual fee.
| Category | Annual fee | Envelope |
|---|---|---|
| General freight | $221 | ≤4.27 m wide, ≤30 m long, ≤4.50 m high |
| Fishing boat (all routes) | $441 | — |
| Manufactured / mobile / modular home | $441 | ≤4.72 m wide, ≤30 m long, ≤4.50 m high |
| Non-conforming configuration | $65 | 1-year permit |
Additional Fees
Overweight annual is a separate permit, $441 to $1,101 by class (12-month).
Fees are effective December 1, 2024 and subject to change. Standard oversize permits issue from the six DTI district offices; the Special Permits Section handles annual and specialty categories.
Newfoundland and Labrador issues a single flat $400 annual Over Mass / Over Dimensional permit. Single-trip permits ($75, valid 5 consecutive days) are capped at three per year before the annual is required.
| Permit | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single-trip (Over Mass / Over Dimensional) | $75 | Valid 5 consecutive days; max 3 per year |
| Annual (Over Mass / Over Dimensional) | $400 | Prorates at $25/month if cancelled |
| Excessive Over Mass (superload) | $300 | Single-trip |
| Excessive Over Dimensional | $150 | Single-trip |
Annual envelope: 4.27 m wide, 4.5 m high, 30 m long, 64,000 kg. Oversize and overweight ride one combined Over Mass / Over Dimensional category rather than two separate permits.
Nova Scotia prices annual over-dimension permits per over-size factor (Service NS RMV, PAAL280). Each of over-width, over-height, over-length, and rear overhang is $133.25 per year, and the applicable factors add together.
| Over-size factor | Annual fee |
|---|---|
| Over-width (>2.60 m) | $133.25 |
| Over-height (>4.15 m) | $133.25 |
| Over-length (>23 m) | $133.25 |
| Rear overhang (>2.00 m) | $133.25 |
| Front overhang (>1.0 m) | $19.85 |
| Boom extension | $15 |
Additional Fees
Annual / contractor overweight is separate: $265.30, $796.10, or $1,326.95 by GVW bracket (not available over 69,800 kg).
Annual is not available above 4.27 m wide, 30 m long, or 4.88 m high — those moves need Department of Transportation and Infrastructure special approval.
Northwest Territories issues three separate annual permits — Annual Over Width, Annual Over Height, and Annual Extended Length — each $144 per year (Schedule O). A load that is both over-width and extended-length needs two annual permits.
| Annual permit | Fee | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Annual Over Width | $144 | Escort if >3.85 m (Hwy 1 / Hay River) or >3.2 m elsewhere; not allowed >5.18 m |
| Annual Over Height | $144 | Load ≤5.18 m; utility clearance required |
| Annual Extended Length | $144 | Train ≤31 m |
Additional Fees
Winter weight permits ($268 per tractor) are separate from oversize annual permits.
Single-trip overdimension is $38. Overweight is a separate per-tonne-per-kilometre formula. First-time online applicants must call to create an account.
Nunavut issues a $100 annual permit valid 12 months from issue (Motor Vehicle Fees s.55(5)). There is no fixed dimension ceiling; the issuing official sets conditions on each permit.
| Permit | Fee |
|---|---|
| Over-dimension single-trip | $15 |
| Pole-truck permit | $100 |
| Special permit (superload-equivalent) | $200 |
| Annual permit (12-month) | $100 |
There is no online portal — permits are arranged through the Motor Vehicle Division (Rankin Inlet headquarters). Overweight is a separate per-tonne-per-kilometre formula, and the two fees sum when a load is both over-dimension and overweight.
Ontario prices oversize/overweight permits by class (O. Reg. 381/98). The standard annual permit is $448.75, an Enhanced Annual is $744.50, and a finite-term project permit is $291.75.
| Permit | Fee | Envelope |
|---|---|---|
| Annual | $448.75 | ≤25 m, ≤3.85 m wide, ≤4.26 m high, ≤63,500 kg |
| Enhanced Annual | $744.50 | Volume-discount formula across trips |
| Project | $291.75 | ≤36.75 m, ≤4.30 m wide, ≤70,000 kg |
| Single-trip oversize | $66.25 | Per move |
Annual permits exclude the spring weight-restriction months for overweight loads (March–April Southern, March–May Northern Ontario). Superloads (≥120,000 kg) are a separate class. Government of Ontario applicants pay no fee.
Prince Edward Island issues a flat $200 annual oversize permit (Highway Traffic Act Fees Regulations) — one fee regardless of how many dimensions are exceeded. There is no published dimension ceiling; conditions are set per permit.
| Permit | Fee |
|---|---|
| Single-trip oversize | $50 |
| Annual oversize | $200 |
Overweight is a separate permit under the Roads Act, priced by axle count and gross weight, with no annual overweight option. Permits are obtained from the Borden-Carleton Scale House (902-437-8534, 24-hour line).
Québec issues an annual general permit (permis général) priced by class (r.35). Class 1–3 is $347 per year and Class 4–7 is $802 per year. A small administrative issue fee ($13.50) applies to every permit.
| Class | Annual fee |
|---|---|
| Class 1 / 2 / 3 | $347 |
| Class 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 | $802 |
| Class 6 bridge sign | $135 |
A permit spanning several classes pays the highest applicable class only, not a sum. Class 6/7 superloads require a feasibility report and are not available as a general permit. Duties are indexed each January. Permits issue through the GPM system, 24/7 for most classes.
Saskatchewan issues one-year multiple-trip permits priced by dimension band (H&T Act Reg 8, Part V). Over-width and over-length each carry their own band and add together on one base.
Over-width (one-year multi-trip)
| Width band | Fee |
|---|---|
| 2.6 to 3.1 m | $15 |
| 3.1 to 3.7 m | $100 |

Additional Fees
EEMV / LCV multi-trip (multi-vehicle, one year) is $300. Overweight multi-trip is $100 per tonne over allowable GVW per year (minimum $20).
Over-height on the High-Clearance Corridor is priced per kilometre. Permits are arranged through the SGI Permit Office by phone, email, or fax (no self-serve online portal).
Yukon does not issue a 12-month annual oversize permit. The closest equivalent is a multiple-trip permit at $25 per month, valid up to 6 months (up to 6 permits at a time).
| Permit | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single-trip overdimensional | $15 | Per move (s.19(2)) |
| Multiple-trip (per month) | $25 | Maximum 6 months; up to 6 permits at a time |
Overweight is a separate permit: $15 plus $0.04 per tonne per kilometre over legal weight. There is no annual permit, so budget the monthly multiple-trip permit for recurring moves.
